Inspiration
A BUNCH OF KABUTO & JET FIGHTER HELMET WITH A SPOON OF 80’S/90’S AUTOMOTIVE DESIGN
Omega Vision Helmet main idea was to find links between ancient Japan warrior helmets & late XXth century concept cars.
The product had also to recall the evolution of our current helmets, in both design and technology. It had to be agressive in shapes and very close to military design.
The jet fighter helmet was naturally took as base reference, but I wanted a different vision in silhouette, materials and details.
I was charmed by the concept cars of late/early 80’s/90’s like the BMW Nazca, the Italdesign Aztec or earlier the Ferrari Modulo. They had a balance between the hard and soft edges on their lines, inspiring an audacious future.
Robocop was an illustration of those military-like designs and maybe that explains why he is so iconic today. Other car models, like the Lotus Etna, also appealed me a lot. This raw & grey aspect was highlighting the resistance, light weight and sportive, almost military, side of those cars. Adding a color painting was therefore unnecessary.
But I still had to find an atypical silhouette. This is where Japan combat helmets (Kabuto) interested me. Enlarging a lot the head, they offered protection & were very impressive. I kept only the main silhouette of the helmet, with the visor and the enlargement on the sides.
